Consumers today are intelligent and ask questions about their food. At Sol Cuisine, we’re proud to say, not only are we smart consumers ourselves … we are also here to answer common questions you – our customers – have about our products.

Where does my food come from?

We think it’s vital (and we think you should too) to know where your food comes from. As a soyfoods processor, we use a lot of soy: about 10 tonnes per month! The whole soybeans we use in our retail products come from a farm 135 miles from our plant. Our farmer grows special high-protein soybeans, just for us.

We love that we’re connected with our farmer; it means there are fewer parties involved in the trip your food takes to get to your table… and we love being able to monitor the field where our soybeans are grown.

What’s in my food?

The soybeans our farmer grows for us are organic. In fact, he’s one of Ontario’s organic pioneers, having grown certified organic crops since 1987!

What’s in it for the farmer?

As much as we love what we do, we are still running a business. We’re proud to discuss the financial aspects of our arrangement with our farmer as well. The payoff our farmer gets from working with us is better than if he sold his organic soybeans to a commodities broker (someone who buys crops to resell them).

For our farmer, the exchange is more direct and the clientele is more interesting. Not only do we know where our soybeans come from… he also knows what happens to the soybeans once they leave his farm!

What’s in it for us?

We have a relationship with our farmer and understand his philosophy on organic farming. We can pick up the phone and call him to discuss any issues. We can count on consistent price and supply when it comes to our high-quality soybeans. And it sure beats buying soybeans from a broker and not knowing where they come from or who grew them.

Farmers want regular customers. Manufacturers want steady supplies. Customers want to know where their food comes from and what’s in it. By buying like we do at Sol, we all win!
